I was impressed to see Ron
Zapollo from none other than FOX News give Ward Churchill an interview. I expect much less of Fox, though
Zapallo has revealed he is more than a sports news expert
teleprompter reader with great hair. A
tele journalist who cares about the free flow of IDEAS? Lets hope for more.
But I was thinking about my own thoughts on Ward. Why don't I like him? Its not that he is so Unlike Ward Cleaver, Of beaver fame. I like Counter cultural
people and the I i
deas they bring. I listen to
KGNU and their
excellent broadcasts, many of which include such luminaries as
Angela Davis, Howard
Zinn and Studs Terkel.
They have great stuff on
KGNU!enlightening programs like the
Bioneers,
TUC radio and Its own paradigm challenging programs. Right on
KGNU!
But back to Ward. Maybe its his
demeanor. He seems like the arrogant type that would stiff you on a tip (the surest measure of ones character is ones ability to share, ask any server) and act like he
received sub par service. Howard
Zinn on the other hand, seems like the kind of person who would go to
Dunkin Donuts, and leave his change in the tip jar, not even bothering to count it.
Naom CHompsky seems like the sort of person who would tip $2 on a pizza but not much more. But I still like
Naom in spite of his aloof
demeanor. He seems to think everyone who has
access to his lectures is an ivy league graduate who has
fondness for
Beethoven's later sonatas. I say Bach played by Edgar Meyer kicks
Beethoven's ass, but we all like the ninth.
But I digress. On Ward Churchill I can only guess its because he strikes me as an insincere bully who likes to be mad at the establishment all the time and was only hired to lure young easily impressed idealists to boulder, keeping tuition up and giving them plenty of money for other programs. Like Space and science and stuff with better
dividends than justice.
Or perhaps I am the prick. Perhaps I am selfish and so focused on my own
struggles I do not have a rats ass left to contribute to some guy in Boulder who cares more deeply for the struggles of Indigenous people than I will ever know. I just hope he realizes that the $90 thousand he makes a year is not small change to any of the working people of Colorado, my native home.
